The future of farming in the Hanna area looks bright with ground being broken for a new agricultural equipment dealership.
Cervus Equipment, the local John Deere dealer, is building a new 28,000 square foot building.
"Efficiencies is a big part of it. We have a lease expiry also happening and we're looking for what we could do from here on in to be able to look after the customers in the area," explained Steven Wildeboer of Cervus.
He said the new dealership will have increased service capacity, more equipment inventory and better parts and merchandise selection. So how are farmers managing to purchase enough new equipment to warrant expanding the business?
"We've had to go to different types of financing: leasing is a big part of the portfolio," Wildeboer outlined. "It's changed from a cash buy to, in a lot of cases, it's dollars per acre: what is it going to cost me to run my equipment for the year?"
Ground was broken in a ceremony on September 19 and Wildeboer believes construction will get underway very soon.
"We signed a contract for dirt work to start right away here," he told 99.5 Drum FM. "We are hoping to be into the building by September 30, that is our goal, the very very latest, October 31 of next year (2018)."
Hanna store manager Mark Jones will stay on in the new building.
