It's almost time for Drumhellions to show we have a lot of heart.
"The Heart to Heart Society has been in existence in Drumheller for quite some time now. It raises money to help those who have been suffering with heart disease, so that's all forms, and it could be support through rehabilitation or programs," stated Trevor Gough, acting President of the Heart to Heart Society board.
The annual walkathon is coming up on April 5 at the Badlands Community Facility.
"It will start at 8:00 a.m. and run until 1:00. If people are wanting to participate with regards to the walkathon, they simply need to stop at Ascend Financial and pick up a pledge sheet, then of course, go around to get pledges either for laps or a flat fee. If they don't want to participate but still want to donate, come on down. You can donate through myself or any of the board members," Gough outlined.
To date, the Heart to Heart Society has raised approximately $340,000 worth of equipment for the Drumheller Hospital. All proceeds raised through the walkathon or any other Heart to Heart fundraiser stays within the Drumheller Valley.
"It's very unique in Drumheller because most places that you go through for these rehabilitation programs, you pay for. Because of the funding that we raise through the walkathons or casinos we're able to do this with no cost to the people, so it's a very important part of what goes on at the hospital," Gough expressed.
The Drumheller Health Foundation gives a list of items needed, either new or fixed, and that is what the raised funds goes towards.
"One of the things that is on the list right now is one of the stress treadmills, it looks like it may need a new belt on there. You think of a normal treadmill that might not be much, but one of the ones that they measure stress on, the cost could be as much as $6,000 just for the belt," noted Gough.
