The Drumheller RCMP Detachment had a busy weekend trying to locate a stolen vehicle.
On February 20, a local business owner reported his work truck as stolen, but was recovered the next day in Strathmore. There was also a reported theft in Strathmore within the exact same time span.
"There's a divide between the two investigations. The vehicle was stolen and there was a stolen vehicle also recovered in Drumheller last night. The vehicle was located down in Strathmore's area and the suspect has been taken into custody from that. I'm not aware that there was a direct link between the theft from here down to Strathmore," stated Corporal Trent Sperlie with the Drumheller RCMP Detachment.
"It's still under investigation and obviously we still have more to investigate on this end. Based on the investigation that the Strathmore detachment did, there's still some follow up that we can do on another stolen vehicle that was recovered in our area," added Sperlie.
There's been multiple stories floating around town with the thefts and Corporal Sperlie is hoping to close this investigation to set the record straight.
"It's definitely the vehicle from our area. I've heard the same rumour as you, I just don't think it was stolen and then directly followed and chased down to Strathmore. I don't think that's exactly how it went," he noted.
"Our members were called to it last night, they did attend, they did investigate and they weren't able to recover it. This morning (February 21) Strathmore became involved in the investigation and that investigation resulted in them recovering the vehicle and taking the suspect into custody."
