Drumheller's new Director of Infrastructure started his new job this week.
Armia Mikhaiel is from Egypt originally. He comes to town from Regina, where he was an engineer with the water department. He also has overseen infrastructure in Thompson, Manitoba.
"The basics for the infrastructure is the same wherever you go: if you are dealing with roads or water network or collection network, the concept is the same," he told 99.5 Drum FM. "The situation here is a bit unique because Drumheller is not just concentrated in one small spot, it's a bit stretched including the other communities."
"I feel I'm really lucky to be here in Drumheller, I love the town," he raved. "It's small, so you feel like it's a big family (and) everything is within reach. At the same time, it's not too far from Calgary."
Mikhaiel said he came to Canada looking for opportunity after hearing from friends what a wonderful country this is, and he now feels the same way.
"Once I got the confirmation that I joined the team in Drumheller, that was my first impression to my family back home that it's a beautiful place," he added. "I will have invitations for them to come and enjoy the beauty of Drumheller and Canada in general."
Mikhaiel replaces Darry Drohomerski, who moved up to CAO with the retirement of Ray Romanetz.
