"Fill out the form, get a shot, wait 15 minutes, go home and do your thing," outlined Ray Ainscough, Pharmacist at Riverside Value Drug Mart in Drumheller. "Last year was a bad year for the flu, there was quite a few deaths worldwide, so it's definitely a good thing to get vaccinated."
How effective is this year's flu shot?
"Way too early to tell, you never know how great they are until after the season's over," cautioned Ainscough. "You hope it's the right one, but you won't know until the season's over whether it was or not."
While the vaccine is available for free at any pharmacy, people with young children are urged to check with their doctor. Alberta Heath Services will also be operating a clinic at the Drumheller Hospital starting next Monday and Tuesday, October 22-23, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. each day.
"The only reason I would say not to (get a flu shot) is if you're allergic to it or you have a chest infection, then I'd get it done when you're better," advised Ainscough. "Other than that, no, there's no reason not to get it."
