After ten years as Reeve of Starland County, Barrie Hoover's tenure came to an end on Monday evening when John Rew was elected to the position.

Hoover isn't bitter about the defeat though.

"I do believe that John will do just as well in the position and represent our community well."

Over the past decade, Hoover has seen numerous projects take place in Starland County, including an initiative that provided subsidized solar installation. His favourite parts though, were meeting new people and seeing new places.

"Getting to meet everybody and, when we first started, I saw parts of the county that I didn't even dream were there. And I really enjoyed meeting all the other Councillors from the other areas."

Hoover was elected to the Starland County Council in 2004 and became Reeve in 2007. He says he learned a thing or two during his 13 years in power.

"Our problems are not so different from area to area, or town to rural or anything."
