The Heart to Heart Society in Drumheller received a large donation Thursday afternoon.
The Kohut family made a donation of $8,000 to help fund a Nu Step T5XR Recumbert Cross Trainer machine at the Drumheller Health Centre.
The family made the donation in memory of John Kohut Jr. who passed away in August.
"Our family decided we wanted to do some tribute for John and because of all the heart issues in our family, we decided that the Heart to Heart Society was the best place to put the funds and they need a new cardiac machine so it's going towards a great cause," explained Heather Colberg.
President of the Heart to Heart Society Trevor Gough and Treasurer Flo Moffat were on hand to accept the cheque.
"There is only one at the hospital and we're finding there's more people using it than there is actually available time for them so we need an extra machine and that's what it's going towards," added Gough.
The recumbert cross trainer is a low impact exercise machine used for cardiac rehabilitation in the hospital.
Colberg says she and her family thank the community for the support they have received since John Jr.'s passing earlier this year.
"It's been difficult but we are all just grateful for everything everybody has done," she concluded.
