A woman is dead after a fatal highway collision near the town of Oyen, about a hour and a half east of Drumheller.
 
RCMP were called around 9 a.m. on Sunday to Highway 9 near Range Road 51, near the hamlet of Excel to find an SUV had collided head-on with a semi.
 
The adult female driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. She was 32 and from Calgary, but police are not releasing her name. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
 
Both vehicles ended up in opposite ditches after the crash and the highway was closed for much of the day.
 
Police are investigating, but said there was heavy fog in the area at the time.
