The Town of Hanna is gearing up to improve and remodel its community centre.
The building was built in 1986 by a group of local citizens.
"(We've been) reviewing our community center for the past four years," explained Gwen Snell, Director of Community Services for the Town of Hanna. "Our Community Services Board has had a sub-committee looking at other communities and what their facilities are like."
The objective is a fresher look for the community center with new washrooms and a revamped kitchen, including a commercial grade dishwasher. Snell says these features are becoming more of the norm when it comes to the functionality and presentability of the building.
"Council has authorized the Community Services Board to work with an engineer and architect to develop two potential plans," she continued. "One: looking at renovating the existing footprint of the facility; and two: looking at a possible addition to the facility."
The Hanna Community Center has been used for hosting musical events and doubles as the town's theatre. It has housed weddings and birthdays and many other types of celebrations for 30-plus years.
"We want to make sure we do it right," concluded Snell. "That (way) it continues to serve our community for another 40 years."
Snell could not confirm the official price tag for the renovations, but she said it will be a huge project for Hanna.
