Social media gurus are being sought after for a new tourism initiative from Canadian Badlands.
The organization has launched their Tourism Ambassador program aimed at promoting the region through social media and blog posts during the summer months.
Hanna is one community where the project is being launched, which has its Economic Development Officer eager to see what happens.
"We're looking for social media stars. We're looking for people even in the Special Areas as well, who are interested in promoting our events, our attractions and can actually attend the events and blog and do things on social media with it," explained Trisha Sewell of Cactus Corridor Economic Development.
Training on how to use social media properly will be provided by experts who will teach specifics about content writing and developing a social media following.
"There is Jody Robbins, who is a blogger with Travels With Baggage and then there is also Pete Heck, who is with Hecktic Media. He has done a lot of what we call 'influencer' type of social media where he's gone and done the events and wrote about them, so he's got a lot of expertise in this field as well as Jody," added Sewell. "We're so appreciative Canadian Badlands is giving us that expertise so we can then train people to be really effective in communicating our stuff."
The ambassador program is for participants aged 18 and older as of May 1, 2017 and all participants must live within the Canadian Badlands region.
"The people who best know the Canadian Badlands are those of us who live here," said Barry Morishita, President of Canadian Badlands Tourism, in a media release .
Interested individuals should be active on various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Application information must be submitted by March 31 to [email protected].
