The day after our town cleans up thousands of articles of garbage within our community, a report of garbage dumpers came to the DrumFM studios.

A report from local man, Blair Potter, who came into DrumFM said that a garbage dumping bandit or bandits have been dumping unwanted garbage and other items behind the Extra Foods building.

DrumFM cannot comment on who the person or persons are but according to Potter, the culprits in interest, have been doing it for at least 3 years.garbage1Photo submitted by Blair Potter

"Right now, we have looked through the bags," he said. "We've found names of people in the past and have found the names of the people, who we think, have done this."

Potter further explained that the names identified have been from envelopes with mailing addresses.

Potter takes walks with his German Shepherd behind the Extra Foods building because he enjoys it. Unfortunately, a dirt road through the area has been inviting these litterers to discard items such as brake pads and full mattresses into the open badlands. Items that are 100%, not biodegradable.

"I don't think it's just one person. It's two or three," explained Potter who has physically caught people in this act of littering. "I caught two and they cleaned it up. I just told them either I go to bylaw or police or you clean it up, and they would clean it up."

May 3 was our towns Earth Day which was organized by Heather Colberg, who is very disappointed in the situation.

"It's extremely disappointing because we had hundreds and hundreds of volunteers out cleaning up the garbage," she continued. "The bins were in place, I mean, I don't know why that area is being used as a garbage site but it needs to stop. It's wrong."

Colberg also said that people just do not realize that others are watching their actions and the key to living in a beautiful place, like Drumheller, is to do our part and make it better. Not worse.
