On March 22, Drumheller Valley Secondary School held an auction that put cake in the hands of the highest bidder.

"This time, we are fundraising for our Grad 2018 Class in regards to our graduation ceremony that will take place on the 26th of May." said Principle of DVSS, Curtis LaPierre.

This aucton has been very successful in recent years and always draws a large crowd.

"We found out that we have the greatest sucess, and the students have the most fun, with a cake auction." LaPierre continued, "We get at least a good forty cakes to bid on, in terms of the creativity, the decoration, flavor and sizes is absolutley extraordinary."

DVSS is no stranger to fundraising. Every year, the school engages in a variety of fundraisers for community associations such as the Salvation Army. Back in the fall of 2017, the school also did a fundraiser for the crisis that was happening in Mexico, which raised over $1,000.

"We have items that will go for as little as five dollars," LaPierre said, "Then groups of kids will pool together their money. We've just had a cake go for $200. It's a great fundraiser and a postive event and the community comes out as well."

The total amount raised for the DVSS grad this year was $2,270.
