Summer in Drumheller usually means hot weather and cooling down at one of Drumheller's many outdoor water facilities. Unfortunatly, locals and tourists alike may have to wait a little bit longer for a cool dip as leaks have been found in both the fountain and the outdoor pool at the Drumheller Aquaplex.

Crews from the Town of Drumheller were working last week to open the pool, only to run into some maintenance problems, including at least one leak in the pipes attached to the pool.

"Unfortunatly, as crews were preparing the pool to be open for the season they have discovered a leak, and so now they are exposing the pipes and checking to make sure there aren't any other leaks," explained Drumheller Communications Officer Julia Fielding. "Once they have discovered if there is a leak and others, they will fix the pipes, fill in the ground and then start filling the pool again for the season."

"At least we still have the wonderful indoor pool to enjoy. It is a disappointment for everybody, it is beautiful weather at the minute and we all want to be out in that outdoor pool. Crews are working hard and hopefully it will be open sooner than later.

While we can still expect the pool to open soon, the fountain may be a different scenario.

"The fountain was on for a little bit last week, and while they  (maintenance crews) were doing that, they saw a lot of water being used." said Fielding.  "After some uncovering there was, again, some leaks. Possibly one, possibly more."

Fielding says it is even possible that the fountain will not be operational this year, although she hopes that is not the case.
