The kids are getting ready to go back to school in about three weeks and that is going to mean some busy days for the people who operate the Salvation Army Food Bank in Drumheller.

The annual Stuff the Bus food drive is coming up on Thursday, August 31.

"We go through this stretch of spring and summer with no big food drives and here we get to the end of August, and we're really needing to stuff the bus so we can fill our shelves and make sure that we have what people need," remarked Captain Jennifer Hillier.

"We've had a lot of parents mention already the cost of back to school and things are so tight (that) they're feeling really stretched," she related. "It's really an opportunity for us to just get in there and help families get through that tough time."

A yellow school bus will be parked in the Canadian Tire parking lot beside ATB Financial; people are asked to drop off non-perishable food items to feed less fortunate families.

"Peanut butter is one of those items, or nut butters, and especially this time of year, it;'s back to school snacks: granola bars, pudding packs, fruit cups. The things that people send to school wtih their kids are what other families are looking for."
