Winter weather appears to be just around the corner and a lot of Drumheller residents prepared by getting their flu shots last week.
The new influenza vaccine became avaiilable at local pharmacies on Monday, October 23 and business was brisk.
"The flu shots have been going really well: the response has been great," exclaimed Ray Ainscough, pharmacist at Riverside Value Drug Mart. "The first week is always the busiest for the flu shots: there's people that know it's coming, so they want to get it done right away. The more people that come out, the better we are off."
"It's a good vaccine," Ainscough stated. "We're worried because the talk is it's going to be a bad year for the flu, so we want as many people vaccinated as we can get."
All three pharmacies in Drumheller are giving free vaccinations to anyone age 9 and older who can produce their Alberta Health Card. Anyone younger than 9 will have to attend a provincial walk-in clinic. The next one for Drumheller is Monday, November 6 at the hospital.
"I think it helps your immune system period, but anybody who's had the flu does not want to get the flu," summed up Ainscough. "Anybody who hasn't had the flu, you don't want to get the flu."
