The unseasonally warm weather is having unintended negative consequences.

Wheatland County has just imposed a full fire ban on the municipality between Drumheller and Strathmore.

Permit burning is banned until further notice because of extreme dry and windy conditions. All outstanding permits are suspended.

The ban includes camp fires, charcoal barbeques, incinerators and fireworks. It does not include household fireplaces, gas barbeques and cook stoves and portable propane fire pits.

The Special Areas east of Drumheller has also imposed new fire restrictions for Areas 2 and 3. Farmers will have to notify the Hanna office before attempting any controlled burns.

Campfires are still permitted, but that may change if conditions worsen.
