August 29 was a busy day for firefighters in the Drumheller Valley.
A little after 6:00 p.m. they responded to an accident that saw a van run over one of the town's concrete dinosaurs. Around 1:00 Thursday morning, crews from Drumheller, Rosedale and East Coulee attended a house fire at 2 Ave. and 3 St. in Lehigh.
"When we got on scene it was fully involved, a single family dwelling," related Fire Chief Bruce Wade. "(There were) no injuries: the occupant got out with his animals and we had it extinguished around 3:30."
"The guys did a good job and had it knocked down quite quickly," he relayed. "We had ATCO on scene and had to call in Big Country Gas (because) the gas line had ignited and was free flowing, so we had to get Big Country Gas in and control that."
There is no damage estimate as yet, but Wade admitted the house is a write-off.
"At this point in time it looks non suspicious, accidental, but the investigation is ongoing."
About 14 firefighters from the three halls responded to the call.
