Muscular Dystrophy Canada is better off thanks to the Drumheller Fire Department and Canada Day.
The department put one of its trucks in the annual July 1 parade again this year. The firefighters handed out candy, but they were also collecting donations.
"Every year we do that Fill a Boot; we collect all that money and then we make a donation to muscular dystrophy from our fire department," explained firefighter Mitch Smith.
Smith said Drumheller and other fire departments across the country do quite a bit of work with, and for, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
"They do a lot of work with other fire departments around Alberta. I think they approached us however many years ago and we've been working with them ever since."
"We raised $4,294," he told Drum FM. "It's awesome; it's been going on for a few years, I've been a part of it for about five now."
