Yesterday, Drumheller Fire and Rescue responded to a call across the Suspension Bridge about a tipple at the old Star Mine that was on fire.

The tipple is located on the other side of the Red Deer River by use of the Suspension Bridge.

"Somebody had vandalized the tipple there. There's some graffiti on the ground and on the tipple," outlined Fire Chief, Bruce Wade. "They caught it on fire, so it's a suspicious fire."

When fire crews arrived, they began to work quickly to get the now burning tipple under control. It didn't just stop with the tipple, said Wade.

"We had a bit of a grass fire," he said. "So we had to stop that also."

"The guys had no choice but to cut the tipple down to extinguish the fire," concluded Wade.

According to Wade, the RCMP are currently investigating the issue. No leads have surfaced as of yet.
