A new and popular group activity has come to Drumheller.

Escape This opened their doors to many customers for their grand opening on August 5.

"We've had positive reviews from everyone that has done the rooms whether it has been Mary's Place, which is our easiest all the the way up to our Coal Heist, which is the hardest one," said co-owner Chris Schellenberg.

The attraction opened June 1 after two months of construction. They welcomed their 1,000th visitor on August 4.

"It came about when we took our daughter down to Lethbridge for her cheer and also her birthday party so we found something they could do as a team while celebrating her party," explained Schellenberg. "Two weeks later we went to do one in Calgary then about February we figured out it was something we needed to bring to Drumheller."

A month later the Schellenbergs leased the space for the escape rooms and construction got underway on April 1.

"We do have three themes and they are valley based," said co-owner, Tara Schellenberg. "Our first one is Mary's Place, which is a prohibition era style room and we take you back in time. We have our Coal Heist, which plays off of our coal mining history here in the valley and our final is Dinosaur Mystery and it's fun to find out where our paleontologist went."
