It was the first BBQ of the year at Freson Bros., and it was cold.
Undeterred, Drumheller Valley Secondary School students manned the grill on Saturday, Mar. 24 to sell hot dogs and collect pop tabs in support of Ronald McDonald House.
Emily Albright and Kasia Teske took a quick break and spoke with 99.5 Drum FM about their fundraiser.
"Well, we're doing a BBQ to raise money for the Ronald McDonald Houses in Red Deer and Calgary," explained Albright. Teske was quick to add: "and we're collecting pop tabs for the Northern Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton."
The fundraiser wasn't a one-day event. The girls put their entrepreneurial spirit to good use the week before and sold McDonalds coffee to caffeine-starved staff and students.
"We're selling McDonalds coffee in the concession and some muffins as well," said Teske.
"The coffee was donated by McDonalds [in Drumheller]," explained Albright.
Pop tab collection is still ongoing, said Teske. "You can drop off pop tabs on the 26th of March at DVSS."
