Every year, the Royal Canadian Legion puts on a contest to encourage students to get creative.
The Legion Branch #22 presented awards this past week to two Drumheller Valley Secondary School students who entered and won their Remembrance Day Poster Contest that was held in November.
"The legion, they put on this contest every year, of course. We encourage students to enter," said teacher at DVSS Dawn Sullivan. "Jayden and Halle are very artistic."
Jayden Wipf won first in the Intermediate Poster Color Category at the District Level and an honorable mention higher up at the Command Level. In second place came Halle Lautermilch who competed in the same categories.
"I try and encourage the students to enter but it's really up to them to design," said Sullivan. "I do have my Social classes do posters every year before Remembrance Day so we can tack them up in the school as a way to honor our vets."
"I think the girls were surprised and happy with what happened with their posters," concluded Sullivan.
