Drumheller Valley Secondary School's leadership students have been busy helping out the community.

The students received a $500 grant from The Education Partnership Foundation to help provide additional community recreation opportunities.

The young leaders chose on a giant chess set and donated it to the Town of Drumheller.

"This chess set is a great donation from the DVSS students. We are hoping to use it downtown in the new areas we are developing such as the plaza," commented Economic Development and Communications Officer  Julia Fielding.

The leadership class studied public speaking, goal setting and volunteering with the Good Food Box all year as well as donating the chess set.

"It's fantastic to have these young people donating something that everyone in the town can use and how great to show their support for Drumheller," continued Fielding.

The Town of Drumheller is working out some logistics with the donation but is excited for it to be used this summer.

"We are hoping to have it downtown and it will be for visitors and locals alike. Everyone is free to use it, we just need to work out the logistics, like where to store it and so forth." said Fielding.
