A local man will be making an appearance when Drumheller Provincial Court resumes sitting after the new year in connection with a weekend incident at Drumheller Valley Secondary School.
"We had a person drive a pickup into the side of the building," outlined RCMP Corporal Steven Lloyd. "There was nobody in the school, save for the principal, who was on location at the time, but he wasn't in the immediate area."
The truck smashed into the south-west corner of the school just after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 24. The abandoned vehicle was found next to the tennis courts on the north end of DVSS.
"The person has been located and charged; it was a male," reported Corporal Lloyd. "Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, but there are no charges to that extent."
There was speculation at the time that the truck may have been stolen, but Lloyd said that was not the case.
"It was his own: he drove into the building and there was extensive damage to the building and the truck. An adult male was located and arrested and charged."
The next session of Drumheller Provincial Court is Wednesday, January 3.
