It's a magazine for Canadians, by Canadians and the latest edition includes an article by a Drumheller author.
Kellie Smith wrote to Our Canada Magazine, which is published by Reader's Digest, about her 50th birthday celebration last year in Nelson, BC.
"I've got too many girlfriends that are turning 40 or 50 and are scared of that number and it's just horrific for them, and I thought it's just a number and I'm going to tell others about it," she related. "I submitted it to Our Canada; I never knew if it was going to be in or not so when I opened it up and it was in there, it was pretty cool."
Smith's article is included in the May edition of More of Our Canada.
"People submit stories and they publish them. I never knew they did extra and this one is called More of Our Canada," she explained. "It's always about locals who show pictures of their area or where they've been: people go on holiday and take pictures of it."
Smith and her family vacation near Nelson each summer, where they celebrate her birthday, her father's and her grandmother's. Last summer she and her dad both tried flyboarding, where you're strapped to what looks like a snowboard powered by a water jet that lifts the rider into the air. That was the reason for her story.
"I never thought I'd get published, I just put it in there thinking that they would maybe write saying 'One of our subscibers says 50 is just a number' and I didn't think they'd put the whole thing in," she confessed. "I was pretty pleased: I didn't think they'd put the whole thing in."
