A Drumheller local that had been detained in China has now been released.
Sarah McIver, a Drumheller local was detained by the Chinese Government and is the third Canadian to be detained in China in the past several weeks.
UPDATE - According to a spokesperson from Global Affairs Canada via email "Global Affairs can confirm that a Canadian citizen, who was detained in China this month, has been released and has now returned to Canada. Due to the provisions under the Privacy Act, no further information can be disclosed.” "This person’s detention was due to a work permit issue."
McIver was in China teaching at a school and according to a Chinese Government spokeswoman, she has received administrative punishment for illegal employment.
