The best of Drumheller's community firefighters were celebrating together at the Drumheller Fire and Rescue Awards night on Saturday, April 7.
Bruce Wade, Fire Cheif for the Drumheller Fire Department explained more about the event.
"We have it once a year, and it is to recognize the firefighter with the highest yearly attendance at fires, and also the Rollie Yavis Award for members that go up and beyond doing extra things for the fire department around the hall and doing tours for kids."
The firefighter who attended the most calls received the Mayor's Trophy, which current Mayor Heather Colberg presented.
"We had a pretty good turn out. We were probably only three or four members short that couldn't make it. We had the Mayor at our function and she did present the Mayor's Trophy to RIck Schinnour and Doug Stanger and Reg Gallagher won the Rollie Yavis Award," continued Wade.
Retired members of the fire department also attended the event including Blain Zacharuk, Richard Christensen, Luigi Vescarelli, and Rod Audy. While the night does feature some awards, it is more for the members to celebrate the accomplishments of the year.
"We do go over some of the stats for the year, some of the different calls that we have had. It is just a camaraderie type of thing with supper and just a get together for the members.
