A routine traffic stop led to a bust for the Drumheller RCMP yesterday.
"A couple of members were doing their regular patrols and a vehicle was stopped for a traffic offence. During that investigation, the driver was found to be driving while suspended. We then towed the vehicle and it is subject to a seizure for a period of time," continued Corporal Rachel Pergunas. "The vehicle was searched and an assault-style rifle was found and at that point, the occupants were arrested for possessing a prohibited weapon."
33-year old Victor Charles Foley of Big Valley and 34-year-old Jaime Nichole Ryan of Drumheller were arrested at this time.
"A more thorough search was done and uncovered a semi-automatic pistol, a shotgun, various calibers of ammunition as well as a small quantity of drugs in relation to that search," continued Pergunas.
The pair are facing 8 charges in relation to the weapons and 2 drug charges.
"Now we have two individuals that are facing quite a number of charges in relation to those weapons. The male driver is also facing traffic charges for driving while suspended and the female passenger is facing a charge for failing to comply with some previous release conditions," concluded Pergunas.
Foley and Ryan have been remanded into custody until Friday, September 28th to speak to bail.
