The Town of Drumheller has a new Chief Administrative Officer and they didn't have to look very far afield.

Director of Infrastructure Darryl Drohomerski was confirmed as the replacement on Monday, July 24 for Ray Romanetz, who is retiring this fall after some 35 years with the town.

"I really love the community, my wife and I just fell in love with the community," he told 99.5 Drum FM. "I thought that based on what I've done in my past work experience that I have the ability to do the job. I just felt that I have unfinished work in my career that I wanted to look at a great new challenge and I want to make Drumheller an even better community than it is right now."

Drohomerski moved to Drumheller from Winnipeg just over a year ago, where he had a background in infrastructure management. In his short tenure as department director he has overseen the retrofit of the Drumheller Aquaplex as well as many other municipal projects.

"I think also that people who work in infrastructure tend to have a pretty good financial mind," he added. "That certainly helps as a CAO when you need to have a good, solid financial understanding of your community."

Drohomerski understands that he has very large shoes to fill, but notes he has had a lot of time to learn under Romanetz and will use many of those lessons when he takes over the CAO position on October 1.

"I'd love to make sure that we're running an efficient municipality," he stated. "I'd love to be able to see if we can get more business to relocate or to locate into Drumheller. We want to be able to look and see if there's the ability to attract more people here, whether it be as a retirement or as employment."
