The Drumheller and District Regional Landfill is back in business this morning, one day after a fire at the tipping face forced them to close while crews from the Drumheller Fire Department worked to put out the flames.

White plumes of smoke were spotted coming up from the ground at the place where people dump their loads on Monday evening. By Tuesday morning, fire crews were working to get the blaze under control and the landfill was closed for business.

The fire was extinguished yesterday, although crews hung around for a while to make sure there were no hot spots left.

The landfill has now reopened with a new tipping face for the public. Landfill staff will be directing users and people are asked to follow all instructions closely and use caution.

It's not known yet what caused the garbage fire, but Drumheller Fire and Rescue will be handling the investigation.
