There has been a seizure of contraband and unauthorized items at Drumheller Institution.
On August 10, 2018, at about 9:20 PM, as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized on the perimeter of the minimum security unit at the Drumheller Institution.
"The contraband and unauthorized items seized included bottles of steroids, steroid capsules, pouches of tobacco, cigarettes, rolling papers and T- shirts," explained Maureen Quintal, Assistant Warden, Management Services.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is heightening preventative measures to keep contraband from entering its institutions in order to secure a safe and secure environment for institutions across Canada, including the Drumheller Institution.
"The total estimated institutional value of this seizure is $12,490," Quintal said.
"These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions," she concluded.
Quintal further expressed that the Drumheller Instituion will continue to be vigilant within the day-to-day operations of the minimum and medium security units.
