On Tuesday, Jan. 16, a year's worth of fundraising efforts culminated in a cheque presentation ceremony at Boston Pizza.

Mel Mazereeuw, the Manager of Drumheller's Boston Pizza gave a cheque worth $655 to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation.

The money came, in part, from the October cancer awareness fundraiser held last year.

"So, the month of October was, of course, our cancer awareness month and we didn't make it breast cancer awareness, we made it all cancer awareness," explained Mazereeuw. "So, we had paper ribbons for the store, we had posters for what all the colours meant (for what cancers you are supporting)."

The balance came from Boston Pizza's national fundraising campaign, elaborated Mazereeuw.

"Whatever we raise in the national campaign, they give us 10 per cent of that [money] back, and we donated that also to the cancer foundation."

Linda Ames, the Drumheller Area Health Foundation Administrative Secretary, was happy to receive the money. Although the cancer unit isn't in need of anything right now, the money will be put into the hospital's Greatest Need fund.

"The nice thing about donating to the Drumheller Area Health Foundation is it stays right here in town, it doesn't go anywhere else," said Ames.
