Carmel Joy Baird is the host of the CMT-TV show, Mom's a Medium. That's how she came to the attention of Greg and Jodi Kucher.
"She was doing readings for big names like Brett Kissel and they swore by their readings," noted Greg Kucher. "She's doing these bigger names, she's got a show on CMT , so obviously CMT endorses her, we thought let's give it a try and see if she can convince us. All she's convinced us is that she is not a person worth dealing with in any capacity."
The Kuchers contacted Baird in June, 2015 and paid her $525 in advance: they are still waiting for a reading and have had scheduled appointments bumped several times.
"Alberta's consumer protection laws basically state that because she's not actually refusing to provide the service, she's not breaking the law," explained Kucher. "If she wrote and said I'm not providing your reading and you can't have your money back, that's illegal, but she's not saying that; she's saying oh yes, we'll do the reading, but there's just no idea as to when that will actually happen."
One woman who contacted Kucher told him she booked her reading with Baird in 2014, more than a year before him, and she is still waiting to get what she paid for.
"In terms of whether I would actually believe a psychic or medium, that's yet to be seen; I'm still very much on the fence," stated Kucher. "Would I want to see what other psychics or mediums have to say? Absolutely. Will I ever pay up front again? Not a chance in Hell."
Kucher hopes the publicity will force the medium to change her tune, but he's prepared to seek legal action.
