Members of the Drumheller Co-op got together Wednesday at the Greentree Mall to vote on a proposal to merge with Westview Co-op out of Olds.
We had 81 total voting members there and some guests, so a total of 102 people were at the meeting last night, which is way more than a normal turnout for an annual meeting," reported Drumheller Co-op General Manager Brent Walker.
"Of the 81 voting members, 70 were in favour of the vote and 11 were opposed, so 86 per cent," he added. "Our bylaws needed 66 per cent or two thirds vote."
Now that Drumheller Co-op members have approved the amalgamation, Westview Co-op members will vote on the proposal this (Thurs.) evening.
"As of February 1, as long as the amalgamation vote proceeds, we'll be called Westview Co-operative Association Ltd. (and) we'll be referred to as Westview Co-op at Drumheller," explained Walker. "As far as the marketing part of it goes, we're still always going to be known as Drumheller: that's where we are, that's our community, that part won't change."
This is National Co-op Week and the store held a free pancake breakfast in partnership with Chinook Financial this morning. They'll be holding a lunch hour barbecue on Friday with proceeds going to the Drumheller Sea Cadets.
