The Town of Drumheller has just been approved for a hefty grant that will help improve our town.
"This is from the Government of Alberta from their Economic Development division and it's part of their CARE's program. This is a community assistance program and it's focusing over the next couple of years on economic development for towns across the province," stated Julia Fielding, Economic Development and Communications Officer for the town.
The grant is for $20,000 dollars and will be solely focused on downtown.
"We're trying to get the tourism master plan moving and so we're looking at doing some strategic planning downtown like visioning and using all that visioning to be the blueprint for all the work we do downtown," she noted. "It will inform the storefront grant program, we got some money this year to do revitalization, streetscaping and those sort of things. The idea is that this will be the overarching vision and all those other things will feed into it."
Fielding added that they have some extra money to bring in consultants to take them step by step through the process.
"This consultation is open for everybody, so not just for those who have a business downtown, but this is if you shop downtown too. The downtown is vital to this towns success, so we want everybody to be involved."
Part of the CARE grant is working in partnership with Community Futures and Travel Drumheller.
"We've got to work together, we're a small town and we have to pull together to work together. That's why the vision is important because everyone can take part in the visioning and you then have buy in from every group," Fielding expressed.
