The Government of Alberta has stepped up to help local ag societies across the province with a new ten Million Dollar grant program. They have announced a new grant program that will help with lighting, heating, and ventilation.

The grant will be paid for by the 2018-2019 Climate Leadership Plan funds and will many societies across the province deal with the impact of the imposed carbon tax.

"We need so many upgrades to the building," explained President of the Drumheller Stampede and Agricultural Society, Marie Hirsch who already have been planning to apply.

Drumheller's local Agricultural Society is already feeling the pinch and would benefit greatly from this grant.

"It is ridiculous how much we have to pay in utilities and everything, and most of it is taxes," continued Hirsch.

"We would have to upgrade the lights and hopefully the furnace. It is just an old building we need to upgrade a lot of things."

An estimated 260 Ag Societies across Alberta are eligible for this grant, and Hirsch is glad the Alberta Government is seeing the value these building bring to the community.

"It is wonderful that people are taking notice. Hopefully, we get the grant. Every little bit helps, if we don't get it we will have to do a lot of fundraising."
