Congratulations to the Town of Drumheller. They been given a couple of major awards from the Economic Development Association of Alberta.
"We were very fortunate to be recognized for the Community Economic Development Ward of Excellence and the Marketing Award for the Dino Walk and Dino Street Naming Project," related Paul Salvatore, the town's Director of Community Services. "We'll be finishing up here early this spring; we just have a few small details to finished (such as) putting up the (dinosaur) medallions on the way finding signs."
The first honour, the Alex Metcalf Award, acknowledges individuals or agencies for excellence in economic development relating to the attraction, expansion or retention of business within Alberta. The Marketing Award recognizes the publicity generated over the projects.
"When we were having members of the public in Drumheller voting for the names of the dinosaurs that we wanted to put up on the way finding and street signs, that got a lot of (media) attention across Canada," explained Salvatore.
"This was a great example of how we've worked with so many different groups," he allowed. "From the community in Drumheller, from the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures Big Country, DinoArts, Travel Drumheller, it's been great."
Salvador paid special thanks to Drumheller CAO Darryl Drohomerski and Economic Development Officer Julia Fielding for their support of the project.
