Drumheller residents who have to rely on others for a ride are about to have a new option.

The Valley Bus Society is about to offer a Dial-a-Bus service.

"You'll have to phone," explained manager Barbara Drever. "We'll have a dispatcher on and one driver, you phone and then we will take you where you need to go -- in town."

"The Dial-a-Bus is in a trial period of three months; I'm doing an analysis of whether it's feasible for us to carry on doing it seven days a week," added Drever. "I've hired one new driver to start in January to help us out."

The service will operate Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday's from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from December 2 through December 16 before closing for Christmas.

Valley Bus extended service to Carbon, Delia, Dorothy, Michichi, Morrin, Munson and Rosebud this summer, along with the valley communities of East Coulee, Nacmine,Newcastle, Midland and Rosedale.

"For the month of October we had 10 charters, for the month of November I'm looking at 21 charters and so far for the month of December we have 17," reported Drever.

The Drumheller Valley Bus can be reached by calling 403-823-1319.
