The community of Carbon saw an impressive turn out for The Carbon Legion 161 Soapbox Derby.

The Soapbox Derby hosted in Carbon on Essex Street saw racers ages 7- 12, 13- 17 and adults race home made vehicles downhill across the finish line.soapbox3Hayden Peever

"It felt really scary because I thought I would hit a rock and spin out," said seven year old Hayden Peever, who raced the soapbox Lighting Bolt. Peever's dad helped him build Lighting Bolt and Peever was excited that his derby car did very well.

Another young racer by the name Hunter Howland also did well with his soapbox, Herbie, coming in at a good time.

The hill saw faster vehicles hit a total time of 19.49 seconds but Peever recalls the moment getting down to the bottom of the hill.

"I was kind of scared, then I was happy," he said.

There was no Alfalfa fighting for romance or Spanky getting into trouble. Just some good old fashioned creativity and a good time.
