Carbon has ended its search for a new Chief Administrative Officer. John Brodrick has been named CAO for the Village of Carbon.

Brodrick has lived and breathed the Municipal Government Act for years, he admitted. In High Prairie, he sat on Town Council for nine years and served six years as Mayor. A new job brought him to Manning where he worked for five years as CAO. He was kept busy in both towns.

"In High Prairie I put in a second ice surface [and I was] involved with the new water treatment plant. In Manning, it was a new fire hall that we dealt with. In Manning, I helped update a lot of the by-laws."

At one point, Brodrick decided to stop working so hard and retire. That move however, was short-lived.

"I retired for six years and actually did next to nothing," said Brodrick. "I don't have any hobbies that occupy my time so, I decided, I have to do something instead of sitting around, and the wife wholeheartedly agreed!"

He sent out applications to jobs throughout the province and started his new job in Carbon just after the New Year. He pointed out that he's still learning the ropes, and estimates that the learning curve will take about a year to overcome. In the meantime, he has one big goal.

"[Carbon has] had three or four CAOs over the past five years, so the big thing I'm hoping to bring is a bit of stability."
