The Carbon election was between candidates Thomas Laffin and Michelle Lomond.

Newly appointed CAO of Carbon, Vanessa Van Der Meer, was overseeing the election.

"Michelle Lomond recived 70 votes and Thomas Laffin recieved 16. Which was really shocking because of people and their reactions, and how advertising went, I thought it would be a really close tie. I was a little shocked," explained Van Der Meer.

With a population of just over 400 people in carbon, 86 people came out to vote. Van Deer Meer is impressed with the turn out.

"This is our second by-election on top of the election they just had last year. The turn out is really well for our community." Van Der Meer stated.

Van Deer Meer thought both candidates would have done well in the community, but is excited to see what Lomond brings to the table.

"Michelle was just ecstatic. Her hand was shaking just trying to give me her contact information after. It was a great feeling because I rememeber that when I first got on council myself."

Lomond's first council meeting will ber held on Monday, June 18, 2018.
