The Village of Carbon, just west of Drumheller on Highway 575, is looking at setting up a Citizens on Patrol chapter, and it looks like they're going to be successful.
RCMP are thanking the vigilant Carbonites who called them on Wednesday, and again Thursday morning about a suspicious vehicle in the village, which has been hit by thieves from out of town several times this year.
On Thursday morning, Mounties got their man outside the Carbon Laundromat.
"The guy originally was from the Three HIlls area; he was born in Three Hills and he actually had a Carbon address on his driver's license," explained Constable Eric Doucette, who responded. "The members had called the owner of the license plate and they said they figured that their son had it; the son was wanted on warrants."
"When somebody saw the vehicle yesterday, they called in again and I located the vehicle at the laundromat," he recalled. "The driver was basically arrested on his warrants and possession of stolen property, and there were a couple of traffic violations thrown in there too."
A group of Carbon residents has already begun the process of starting up a Citizens on Patrol chapter and if this week is an indication of what could happen, Doucette think's they're on the right track.
"People in Carbon are being extremely vigilant right now and this time, it's very beneficial to them and to us," he responded, adding he's especially glad that no-one tried to take the law into their own hands.
