Just short of three years after arriving in Drumheller, and seven years after moving out west, the Garofalo family is headed back to their home of Toronto.

garofaloDurmheller Canadian Tire owner Marcello Garofalo.

Marcello and Teresa own and operate the Canadian Tire store in Drumheller. Tuesday, Jan. 23 will be the last day they will be on-site, and the new owners will take over on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Reflecting back to when the family first moved to Drumheller, Marcello explained that an opportunity arose to own the Drumheller Canadian Tire, and the couple jumped at that chance.

"[It was a] big transition business-wise and family," explained Teresa. "But we were welcomed in the community and the changes we made within the store and, from what we've seen from the community, it's been really good."

The Garofalos said it was nice to raise their teenagers in Drumheller because of the small-town atmosphere. However, three years later, their children are older and their daughter is in university in Ontario. So, when opportunity knocked to move back east, the family answered the door.

"Change is hard but we're heading back to Ontario which is where we're from and our family's from," said Teresa. "So, it's a big step for us and a big move but we're going to miss Drumheller, that's for sure."

"There's so much to offer in this town for families and for people and it's a great, great spot to be and to live in," stated Marcello. "So, thank you for making us feel so welcome in the community, thank you."
