The Creating Young Authors contest is back in Carbon for the third year.

"The contest is open to children ages 5 to 18 in the Carbon area, whether they are in school or are home schooled. We have connected the topics in regards to the schools curriculum," stated organizer Holly Laffin.

So, what are some of the topics for this year?

"There's things like cooperation, empathy, integrity and perseverance. The children write a story with those topics and they have to have a beginning, middle and an end," Laffin outlined.

The contest starts on April 3 and will wrap on April 28.

"We're going to drop off the information at the school and that will be distributed to all the children in the school. For those who are home schooled or on farms in the surrounding area, they can go online to get the information or call the library," explained Laffin.

"It costs absolutely nothing. We want them to enjoy writing and participate, so we look forward to all the stories."
