They baked, they bid and they bought at Drumheller Valley Secondary School on Wednesday, March 29 as the annual Cake Auction for Grad went ahead in the school gymnasium.
The entire senior high was on hand to bid on cakes and other treats baked by Grade 12 students and their family members.
"(There were) 14 cakes more than I expected to have," admitted Jayden Nail, vice-president of the DVSS 2017 Grad Committee. "I was expecting around 15 cakes and we ended up with 29 cakes."
"We raised $2,395," he reported. "That's way above what I expected to come out of it. The community support was just amazing."
The money will be used to stage this year's graduation ceremonies, which are scheduled for May 13.
"Right now, we have a bottle bin set up outside in the student parking lot," noted Nail. "We're going to do a bottle drive later on when it (the weather) gets a little nicer and we're also going to be doing a car wash."
