On Thursday the graduating class of 2019 for the Drumheller Valley Secondary School held their Cake Auction. The auction has been happening for many years and is a big fundraiser for the grad class.
This year there was a great selection of cakes and cookies for many to bid on. The theme this year seemed to be Easter and Kit Kat cakes. There were bids from 5 dollars to 150 dollars and the total was 1680 dollars for the 2019 Grad class.
Spencer James from the 2019 Grad class didn't make a cake but brought one. "I got a cake made for me by Amy Yavis, but I didn't make any."
James knows the importance of this fundraiser, "I think it's pretty important. We have to raise a bit more money (for Grad), we did good today."
With the funds raised, James is hopeful for the ceremonies in late May. "I'm looking forward to it, it should be good. Hopefully, we make a couple more bucks here in the future, but it should be good."
The funds are used to rent sound equipment, decorations, and making the classes graduation a great celebration. The DVSS Grad will be held on Saturday, May 25.
