The Drumheller Rotary Club presented the Cadets with a cheque for $3,000 on Thursday, October 25 to help finance a trip to Normandy, France next June for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
"It's the trip of a lifetime and these cadets will never forget this," stated Rotarian Graham Giffin."I've stood on that beach and these cadets will carry this for a lifetime with them."
"Oh, very excited, yes," enthused third year cadet Liam Treller, when asked his feelings about the D-Day trip. "I'm excited for, I've got to say the food and the ceremony, the ceremony's going to be a lot of fun."
"(This donation) means a lot because it makes it easier in terms of having to do all the fundraising and stuff," he added. "It helps out a lot (and) it's for a good cause."
A total of 16 local Sea Cadets will be accompanied by a World War II veteran. They will cross the English Channel by boat from England, landing at Normandy's Juno Beach on June 6.
They're doing a number of other fundraisers, including one called Who's Got Your Goat?, which is running all this month.
