The community of Byemoor is facing the loss of a vital business in their village.
After eight years at the helm the current owner wants to sell the business, but so far nobody has stepped up to buy it.
"The community has been very encouraging and supportive of the owner trying to find a new owner," stated Les Stulberg, Stettler County Councilor in the Byemoor area. "They've done letters of support to anybody that has been interested at all. The community support is great, it just needs someone to step forward in the final hour and say yes, we will operate that business."
The store houses the post office, a gas station and a small hair salon. Stulberg says the business is a huge part of the community and the area.
"It's at least 70 to 80 kilometers to the nearest service centre, it's a huge loss to the viability of the whole community to lose the store, gas station and post office," said Stulberg.
He added the current owner, Twila Buchwitz has a young and growing family and is finding it tough to balance the store and her family life.
"If it hasn't sold by today (January 31) then she is considering the date to close, so it probably won't be too far in the distant future. She was leaving it up until today, just to see if someone does come forward to buy and if they don't buy, unfortunately she will have to set a closure date," concluded Stulberg.
Byemoor is located about 87 kilometers northeast of Drumheller.
