Winter's over, so bikes and shorts are back in for the RCMP.

Our local law enforcement will be riding around on bike patrols this spring.

"It's that time of the year that the snow is finally gone, fortunately," Said Staff Sgt. Kevin Charles. "After a long winter, the members are anxious to get out on the bikes. It's always well received by the community."

"The public love to see officers on bikes and my guys and girls love it as well."

Charles says the bike patrol makes RCMP officers a bit more approachable and more likely to strike up a conversation with the public. Also, there are added mobile benefits.

"You tend to be able to get into places where cars can't go and hit the bike trails, the splash park and down back alleys," he concluded.

This will also make it easier for the RCMP to hand out those positive tickets we wrote about previously. Being able to observe citizens in a more personable manner will help create that positive awareness the RCMP is looking for.
