An iffy infield has forced organizers of the Big Valley Rodeo to change the date of the event.
"We had some issues with the ground. It's an old coal mining site and we cleared off and it's good and we have the springs fixed but we're not going to be able to get everything done in time to make this work," explained event organizer Tom Cassidy. "We want livestock, competitors, everybody to be safe, so we've found a date that works for everybody and it's the 28th and 29th of July."
The rodeo was previously held indoors at the Big Valley Arena, but organizers decided this year to host it outside, which Cassidy says has been a lot easier from a labour point of view.
Spectators can expect to see rough stock, barrel racing, team roping and more. The rodeo brings in cowboys and cowgirls from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Montana.
